BARBIE ALMALBIS

       BARBIE ALMALBIS

During my high school days, I started to be a fan of the band "BARBIES CRADLE" I was influenced by my older brother to listen to their music. "A pop rock alternative band" from Philippines.

These days I still listen to their music and every time I listen it really caused me nostalgia. I could remember my highschool life when I hear or listen to their song. I really wanted to attend their concert but unfortunately I wasn't able to attend even once. Because they seldom have a concert here in Cebu but I am still hoping that one day I will be able to. SOMEDAY!

As Barbie singing her heart out and play her guitar at the concert. I really Admire her guitar playing skill and angelic voice. She is one of my favorite female artist in the Philippines. I wish have a talent like she has. I guess I need to practice my guitar playing skill so that I will become good in playing it.

EHEADS

                               ERASERHEADS
The band that had contributed a lot in OPM scene. They have many hit songs in the Philippines such as Huling El Bimbo, Alapaap. and my all time favorite song With a smile. This band is considered as one of the most successful bands in the philippines. They won numerous awards. Their songs are really catchy to every Filipino youth due to its lyrics. It conveys a typical social issues in the Philippine pop culture. I have been a fan of them for more than a decade already, their songs are immortal. They are one of the foundation in Philippine pop rock music. They are very influential!

KUMAPIT KA TAYO AY LALARGA NA!

  1. The line I used as a caption of this photo is a line from their song "Alapaap" in English "Skies" I really love it because the song denotes freedom. Just like the birds flying free, the song hit the OPM scene in the mid 90s. It is really a nice song, in my opinion, most of the youth back in those days know the song. Everytime I hear the song, I can't help but singing along to it.

The Ambassadors

                                                 THE AMBASSADORSS

The ambassadors is one of my favorite Cebuano bands who managed to hit the crowd in manila and even guested at MYX (a filipino music program in channel 23) they won best performance in the MYX's segment Bandarito. I feel proud knowing that they won such award despite of many skillful bands who played. I attended numerous gigs of them and I was able to talk to their Vocalist (the one wearing white tees) he shared to me his inspirations behind the song he wrote and I was touched of it. They have been a band for more than a decade and still counting. I looking forward for their new album.

GREYHOUNDZ

google.com/greyhoundz

                                                   GREYHOUNDZ

Greyhound is one of the most successful metal band in the Philippines. They have been a band for 17 years. I started to listen to them when i was a sixth grader. They're music is noisy yet it attracts me because of its guitar and drums technicality and the vocalist has the ability to scream. This band won numerous awards in their early years and still doing their stuffs up to now. They have a meaningful song, although their musicality does not attract the majority of the Filipino because it is kinda noisy. What also attracts me is their style of lyrics writing, it is really admirable because to its meaning and poetic structures. There songs deals with different aspect of life.

Their Lead Guitarist "Audie Avenido" strikes a post as I saw him and asked to take him a picture during the SINULOG BLAST OFF 2013. I was happy at the moment I took it because he was so nice and had a short conversation with me. Sad to say I forgot to have a picture with him. Better Luck Next Time.

URBANDUB

                                 URBANDUB

One of the Cebu's pride, URBANDUB! this band really rocks! when I first heard their I song "Soul searching" I thought the band was a foreign band because of its quality and instruments and the vocal really sound like a foreign band playing. The band that has been  my idol for years. Every time when they have a gig in Cebu (regardless of the specific place in Cebu) I really feel excited to watch them and save money for the ticket (if their show isn't for free) One of the memorable moments i had in their show was when I had a chance to talk and took picture with them at Sinulog Blast off 2013.

They have been a band for many years and still they got the edge to rock on and catch the attention of their fans and listener. In one of their gigs that I attended, Gaby Alipe (The one wearing a long sleeve polo and their guitarist/vocalist) said thanks to all the people who supported and attended their band, he said that they would not be what they are now without the support and love by their fans. They never forget their hometown "Cebu" and that is something good about them. Despite of their success they still remain humble and thankful to God for giving them such opportunity in the mainstream.

I really feel excited every time they will have another album to release and I listen to every single and they never fail to capture my taste in music.

SKA MUSIC

In the Philippines, ska music is not yet common or it has not hit the mainstream yet, that is only based on my opinion and I don't have any statistical proof to it. In this blog I wanna discuss a little bit about ska music. Ska music originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and a precursor to rocksteady and reggae, see more info. in this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska).

In relation to my life, I have been listening and enjoying to ska music since I was in high school. Before I don't really like it because I was not used to listen to music with wind instrument, I was more on "pop punk rock" style. But when I started to listen to the band Reel Big Fish (picture shown above) I became curious and started to like it because of its unique sound. I then let my classmates and friends listen to it and share to them this type of music.

KAMIKAZEE

KAMIKAZEE
This band is called "kamikazee" I guess this band name is derived from the Japanese famous suicidal pilots the "Kamikazee pilots" this is just my opinion about it. I was hooked by their music because of its sounds. The guitar technicality and complex drumming pattern. This band is the most energetic band I have ever seen live. I started to listen to their music when I was in my first year high school. The song "Sana kahit minsan" they have covered from Ariel Rivera was one of the best songs that I ever heard in their all albums. The song "turon" also captures my attention because I find lyrics of it humorous, although literally it just states the process on how to cook a "turon" it is a banana street food.

 "TURON"

Kumuha ng saba
Balatan mo ng maige
Hiwain sa gitna
Sa pamamagitan ng kutsilyo
Ipatong sa pambalot
Ilagay sa bandang dulo
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsty.com/kamikazee-turon-lyrics.html ]

Hintayin itong matunaw
Kapag itoy nagyari
Ilusong na ang saging
Haluin dahan dahan
Hanggang itoy maging medyo brown
Iahon mo na (yeah!) nasusunog!

This photo shows how their lead guitarist "Jose Ma. Luis "Jomal" Linao" perform and do his thing up on the stage.

Kamikazee is one of the most influencial bands in the philippines. Their performances are really crowd-capturing and give the crowd energy and enthusiasm to mosh or jam with every song  they play.

PAROKYA NI EDGAR

"PAROKYA NI EDGAR"

The band that has been kicking in the Philippine music mainstream for a couple of decades. This band has been one of my band influences, I started to listen to them when I was in my 5th grade. Their music really hooked me up because of its simplicity and it has a catchy lyrics and melody. They have received a lot of awards in the Philippine music industry.

One of their big hit in the late 90s was the song "Halaga" it was one of my all time favorite songs of the band. The song talks about the value of the woman who seems to be not aware of the feelings of her guy friend towards her. The girl has a boyfriend that brings her pain and causes tears on her eyes. The woman seems to be disregarding the pain and suffering that she has been receiving from that guy. Her discreetly inloved friend feels hurt everytime the woman approach her with sad aura.

Every advice given to her by her friend is always disregarded and neglected. The guy seems to be tired of giving her a pieces of advice.

The lines:
Hindi na dapat pag-usapan pa
Nagpapagod na rin ako sa aking kakasalita
Hindi ka rin naman nakikinig
Kahit sobrang pagod na ang aking bibig

This band won numerous awards in the Philippine music scene from their early years to the present. I considered them as one of the most successful artists in the Philippines and one of the foundations in the OPM.
